WASHINGTON D.C. – Consigli Construction Co., Inc. began construction in July for the Johns Hopkins University (JHU) Stavros Niarchos Foundation Agora Institute (SNF Agora Institute) on its Homewood campus in collaboration with designers Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Ayers Saint Gross with completion by summer 2023.
The new 61,000 square-foot building will feature two “floating” glass structures embodying the Institute’s commitment to transparency and openness and will support its academic work by providing space for faculty offices, labs, classrooms, meeting and seminar rooms as well as co-working areas. It will also serve as a gathering, event and community venue for conferences, speaker presentations and art exhibitions, with unique outdoor areas
“In partnership with Renzo Piano Building Workshop and Ayers Saint Gross, we look forward to bringing to life a high-quality facility that mirrors the importance of the work that will occur within its walls,” said Phil Brault, Consigli director of operations/DC – project executive. “The glass-filled design will invite collaboration between building end-users and the community while sitting as a prominent gateway to JHU’s Homewood campus.”
The SNF Agora Institute building marks Consigli’s first project with both Johns Hopkins University and Renzo Piano Building Workshop. The combination of Renzo Piano’s world-renowned dramatic design aesthetic and Consigli’s craftmanship will bring to life a space that is designed to enhance the mission of the SNF Agora Institute.
