  • Rapid electrification of one of New York’s century-old buildings utilizing advanced Nordic decarbonization technologies
  • Implementation of electric-powered systems to connect 345 Hudson, its floors and other buildings on the block in “micro-grids”
  • Significant reduction of heating and cooling needs by recycling heat from different spaces in the building

Electric.nyc is a joint initiative led by Hudson Square Properties, Hines, Trinity Church Wall Street and Norges Bank Investment Management and urbs, supported by New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Consigli and its Arch Energy division have been chosen as the construction partner to rapidly electrify 345 Hudson Street, one of New York’s century-old buildings. Electric.nyc’s proven technologies will enable renewable energy within the existing infrastructure at 345 Hudson by replacing outdated systems powered by steam and natural gas with smart electric-powered systems. The smart systems will connect 345 Hudson, its floors and other buildings on the block in “micro-grids”, creating a shared, efficient and circular heating and cooling infrastructure. The floor-by-floor replacement of packaged terminal cooling units and steam heating with a comprehensive water source heat pump system will significantly reduce heating and cooling needs by recycling heat from different spaces in the building. The water source heat pump system will be accompanied by a new, highly efficient energy recovery ventilation system to minimize energy waste. The heating and cooling system at reduced cost will significantly decrease carbon emissions. With a 2032 carbon neutral commitment, the building will reduce its site energy use intensity (EUI) by 69% in comparison to its 2010 126 kbtu/sq. ft. reading.
