Project Overview

  • New construction of a highly efficient, state-of-the-art court facility
  • Collaborative approach to design and pre-construction planning phase
  • Design-assist approach for structural and architectural pre-cast concrete

The new York County Judicial Center, the largest judicial center in the State of Maine at the time of its construction, consolidates four District and Superior courthouses. With overcrowded existing court facilities in Alfred, Springvale, Biddeford and York, the new construction provides the space needed to efficiently manage cases, along with much needed upgrades to the security and technology systems.

Consigli worked collaboratively with Finegold Alexander during a one-year design and pre-construction phase in order to effectively plan the courtrooms’ features, layouts and integrated technology. The three-story Judicial Center, built on a 12-acre site, features nine courtrooms, lobby and waiting areas, mediation rooms, clerk transaction spaces, resource center, jury deliberation rooms and detention areas.

As an all-electric building, the highly efficient courthouse utilizes geothermal heating and cooling with a photo-voltaic rooftop array and a large mechanical penthouse on the roof level.
