MILFORD, MA – In an effort to increase the level of science education in our schools, the Consigli Foundation has donated $15,000 to the Massachusetts-based non-profit Science from Scientists. The organization’s mission is to improve the attitudes and aptitudes of students between fourth and eighth grades in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Science from Scientists has worked in schools all over Massachusetts. In Worcester, the program has been implemented at the Burncoat Street Preparatory School and the Chandler Magnet School with great success.
“This is a great opportunity for us to give back to our home community,” said Anthony Consigli, CEO of Consigli Construction Co., Inc. “As technology rapidly evolves, we understand as engineers and builders the tremendous importance of children receiving a solid STEM foundation starting at an early age.”
“On behalf of Science from Scientists I would like to personally thank Anthony Consigli and the Consigli Foundation for their generous support. Our program in the Greater Boston area has increased state science test scores by a remarkable 25 percent and we are so excited to have been given the opportunity to extend our reach to Worcester,” said Dr. Erika Ebbel Angle, founder and executive director of Science from Scientists. “It takes a company with vision to be willing to invest in the younger generation. In all too few years it is these same children who will be flying our airplanes, programming our phones, and building our homes. A strong background and interest in science is important in virtually any career.”
“The Science from Scientists program is a wonderful opportunity for students to do science investigations with real scientists,” said Jeff Glick, Worcester Public Schools Elementary Science Coach. “It has been great to watch the students come to a new awareness of science through this lens. We have seen a number of the standards based curriculum investigations being conducted and the scientists’ passion for science has been infectious.”
Founded by Dr. Angle in 2002, Science from Scientists has worked closely with teachers, students, administrators and legislators to address the specific needs of various school systems regarding the ongoing STEM challenge.
The donation will support the organization’s core During-School STEM Enrichment Program at the Burncoat for the entire 2015-2016 academic year featuring exciting hands-on lessons taught by real, charismatic scientists.
Established in 2001, the Consigli Foundation’s mission is to directly impact the health, education and well-being of disadvantaged children by contributing to the cities and towns that we live and work in to not only make a better today, but a better tomorrow.
