Project Overview
- New construction of a signature facility to serve as a “front door” and geographic center of the campus
- Designed to serve as a symbol and celebration of environmental stewardship through the use of natural landscape and material selection
- Managing construction in close proximity to highly-trafficked campus buildings and thoroughfares
Gifted to Sarah Lawrence College by acclaimed broadcast journalist and alumna Barbara Walters, her namesake campus center creates 30,000 sq. ft. of new space to serve as a hub for intellectual, cultural and social life on this growing campus.
With the goal of creating flexible multi-use space, the Barbara Walters Campus Center features large, sub-dividable rooms and a double-height atrium to support social and academic offerings. Additionally, the facility includes archives and galleries, meeting rooms, lounges, administrative offices and a dining commons. Construction was managed in the heart of the Sarah Lawrence campus, adjacent to several residence halls, the Heimbold Arts Center, Raushenbush Library and the Performing Arts Center, requiring diligent planning to minimize disruptions.
