The 2019 Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) Excellence Awards jury selected The Richard A. & Susan F. Smith Campus at Harvard University and Springfield Technical Community College Campus Center to receive Excellence in Architecture for Building Additions, Renovation or Adaptive Reuse Honorable Mentions.
The SCUP Excellence Awards program recognizes exemplary comprehensive campus design and planning as a collaborative effort involving architects, planners, administrators and professional consultants.
The Springfield Technical Community College team included Ann Beha Architects; Division of Capital Asset Management and Maintenance (DCAMM); RSE Associates; Altieri Sebor Wieber; Jensen Hughes; Vermeulens; Sladen Feinstein Integrated Lighting; Nitsch Engineering; National Park Service and Consigli Construction. Jury comments included “…imaginative and preservation minded reuse of building…consolidation and clarity of programming is commendable…terrific example of stewardship and smart use of resources…nice work.”
The Harvard University team, including Hopkins Architects Partnership LLP; Bruner/Cott Architects; ARUP; Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates and Consigli Construction were praised by judges for having “opened the building and making it a more significant place…bringing light and circulation in and utterly exceptional.”
