FDR Presidential Library and Museum Wins Twice!! AGC’s “Build New York” Award and ENR’s “New York Best Projects” Award
Our renovation and restoration of the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum in Hyde Park, NY has won the AGC’s Jeffery J. Zogg Build New York award recognizing our project as the best in NY State! The project was also honored by ENR in their “New York Best Projects” regional competition.
Our two-phase, $24 million gut-renovation of the Library and Museum, completed in 2013, required an exceptional level of precision to safeguard precious pieces of American history that are the legacy of Roosevelt’s thirty-five years in public office, from his early days as a New York senator, to the final days of his third term as President.
The project team, led by PX Mike Winters, PM Luke Interrante, Superintendent Dave Caswell and PE Troy Dahlgren had to grapple with an unusual range of project challenges. These included coordination with two Federal agencies—the National Archives and Records and the National Park Service, assuring minimal impact to the historic fabric and character of the compound while integrating new M/E/P systems, and maintaining safe visitor and researcher access to one of the busiest research operations in the entire Presidential Library system. Along the way, notable innovative solutions to unique challenges included consulting with historic conservators for the best way to protect the Library’s hand-painted tile fireplace, and developing a way to continue to use the Library’s original shelving, designed by Roosevelt, while integrating the facility’s new climate control system.
The AGC Build New York award celebrates the highly notable efforts of a whole team that contributes to the success of a project— from construction manager to owner, architect, engineer, subcontractors, suppliers and craftspeople.
For the ENR award program, the Library was one of only 39 projects in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey selected for a top award in ENR’s regional Best Projects competition. This program honors the projects that display excellence in project management, innovation, safety, quality and teamwork.
Award-winning work, an award-winning team!
